Freiburg at the edge of the Schwarzwald

This is Freiburg seen from above. You can see that is is situated right at the edge of the Schwarzwald. "Schwarzwald" means Black Forest and the name comes from the many dark fir trees.
The Schwarzwald is also a mountain scenery. That means that you can go hiking there in summer or mountain-biking or climbing. In winter you can go skiing, snow-boarding and sometimes ice-skating on the lakes within the forest. The area of the Schwarzwald stretches all the way South from the Switzerland boarder, West close to France and North close to Karlsruhe. Its a huge area and a great landscape which attracts many tourists all around the year.
